Biodiesel 2016

Biodiesel 2016

ConferenceSeries Ltd invites all the participants across the globe to attend the World Biodiesel Congress and Expo which will be held on Dec 5-7, 2016 at San Antonio, USA. This scientific gathering guarantees that offering the thoughts and ideas will enable and secure you the theme Biodiesel: Sustainable Future Fuel.  Biodiesel 2016 is comprised of 11 tracks designed to offer comprehensive and interesting sessions that address current trending technologies in the field of renewable energy.

World Biodiesel Congress and Expo will add a contribution to the conference series in the field of Biofuels.

Track-1:  Biodiesel as Alternative Fuel

Replacing fossil fuels with biofuels—fuels produced from renewable organic material—has the potential to reduce some undesirable aspects of fossil fuel production and use, including conventional and greenhouse gas (GHG) pollutant emissions, exhaustible resource depletion, and dependence on unstable foreign suppliers. Demand for biofuels could also increase farm income. On the other hand, because many biofuel feedstocks require land, water, and other resources, research suggests that biofuel production may give rise to several undesirable effects. Potential drawbacks include changes to land use patterns that may increase GHG emissions, pressure on water resources, air and water pollution, and increased food costs. Depending on the feedstock and production process and time horizon of the analysis, biofuels can emit even more GHGs than some fossil fuels on an energy-equivalent basis. Biofuels also tend to require subsidies and other market interventions to compete economically with fossil fuels, which creates deadweight losses in the economy.

Track-2: Advanced & Cellulosic Ethanol

Biodiesel and Cellulosic Ethanol are one in the nearly same. Although light-, medium-, and heavy-duty diesel vehicles are not technically "alternative fuel" vehicles, many are capable of running on biodiesel. Biodiesel, which is most often used as a blend with regular diesel fuel, can be used in many diesel vehicles without any engine modification. The most common biodiesel blend is B20, which are 20% biodiesel and 80% conventional diesel. B5 (5% biodiesel, 95% diesel) is also commonly used in fleets.

Track-3: Biodiesel Production

A biodiesel processor is a set of apparatus that produces biodiesel from any overused or unused oil matter like left over cooking oil or used petroleum oil. As such there are various kinds of processors available which can be put to use to produce biodiesel. A fuelmeister biodiesel processor is one processor of this kind that will help you in production of biodiesel at your home or if you want, for commercial purposes. However, this biodiesel processor is more of a home use processor rather than a large scale producer. An automated biodiesel processor is a like dream come true for us. This processor offers an extremely good deal that tempt anybody. It has an in-built blender, heater and filter. You only need to pour the oil, alcohol and lye (catalyst) at the ratio indicated in the manual and simply push the ON button. The rest will be done by the processor automatically. It is much like a washing machine.

Track-4: Advanced Biofuels

Biodiesel is a form of diesel fuel manufactured from vegetable oils, animal fats, or recycled restaurant greases. It is safe, biodegradable, and produces less air pollutants than petroleum-based diesel.Biodiesel is meant to be used in standard diesel engines and is thus distinct from the vegetable and waste oils used to fuel converted diesel engines. Biodiesel can be used Biodiesel can be used in pure form, or blended with petrodiesel in any proportions. Biodiesel blends can also be used as heating oil.  It also can be obtained from Pongamia, field pennycress and jatropha and other crops such as mustard, jojoba, flax, sunflower, palm oil, coconut and hemp. Multiple economic studies have been performed regarding the economic impact of biodiesel production.

Track-5: Biorefineries

Biorefinaries are used to produce biofuel from the feedstock. The law of supply and demand predicts that if fewer farmers are producing food the price of food will rise. It may take some time, as farmers can take some time to change which things they are growing, but increasing demand for first generation biofuels is likely to result in price increases for many kinds of food. Some have pointed out that there are poor farmers and poor countries that are making more money because of the higher price of vegetable oil. There is ongoing research into finding more suitable crops and improving oil yield. Other sources are possible including human fecalmatter, with Ghana building its first "fecal sludge-fed biodiesel plant. A group of Spanish developers working for a company called Ecofasa announced a new biofuel made from trash. The fuel is created from general urban waste which is treated by bacteria to produce fatty acids, which can be used to make biodiesel. Another approach that does not require the use of chemical for the production, it involves the use of genetically modified microbes.

Track-6: Biodiesel Applications

Chemically, vegetable and animal oils and fats are triglycerides, glycerol bound to three fatty acids. Animal fat such as tallow or lard is saturated, meaning that in the fatty acid portion, all the carbon atoms are bound to two hydrogen atoms, and there are no double bonds. This allows the chains of fatty acids to be straighter and more pliable so they harden at higher temperatures (that's why lard is a solid). To test a vegetable oil to see how many double bonds it has (how unsaturated it is) iodine is introduced to the oil. The iodine will attach itself over a double bond to make a single bond where an iodine atom is now attached to each carbon atom in that double bond. Higher iodine numbers do not refer to the amount of iodine in the oil, but rather the amount of iodine needed to "saturate" the oil, or break all the double bonds. Oils for the most part contain only trace amounts of iodine naturally. Over the last five years or so, these estimates of global vegetable oil yields have been used to calculate the expected efficiency of biofuel crops, especially in the biodiesel sector. Oil yields are the key to life-cycle analysis calculations of the net carbon or energy gain (or loss) from producing fuels from crops, compared with conventional fossil-derived petroleum feedstocks. These sorts of analyses have recently caused concern in some quarters when it was claimed that bioethanol made from US Midwestern cornstarch might be even worse than gasoline in its net greenhouse gas emissions. But thanks to that oil yield figure of 1 MT/ha, most observers would agree that oilseed-derived biodiesel fuels have fairly robust environmental credentials.

Track-7: Environmental Effects of Biodiesel Fuel

The main purpose for the production of biofuels is to minimize the environmental pollution and global warming by reducing the greenhouse gases produce from the emission of fossil fuels. These gases absorb the carbon dioxide from the air and thus cause global warming. Biodiesel reduce the direct tailpipe-emission of pollutants by as much as 20% compared with fossil diesel. Pollutants emission has reduced by around 50% because of the production of biodiesel compared to the fossil sourced diesel. Biodiesel has a higher cetane number than petroleum diesel, which can improve the efficiency and clean up emissions than the petroleum diesel.

Track-8: Biodiesel advantages and disadvantages

The smartest technologies deliver benefits to multiple interests, including improved economy, and a positive impact on the environment and governmental policies. The role of the biodiesel industry is not to replace petroleum diesel, but to help create a balanced energy policy with the most benefit to the United States. Biodiesel is one of several alternative fuels designed to extend the usefulness of petroleum, and the longevity and cleanliness of diesel engines. The ultimate goal is to contribute to building a stronger, more self-sufficient community by way of a community-based biodiesel production model. A community-based biodiesel distribution program benefits local economies, from the farmers growing the feedstock to local businesses producing and distributing the fuel to the end consumer. The money stays in the community while reducing impact on the local environment and increasing energy security.

Track-9: Biodiesel and Economy

Summary:

Biodiesel is produced using a broad variety of resources. This diversity has grown significantly in recent years, helping shape a nimble industry that is constantly searching for new technologies and feedstocks. In fact, industry demand for less expensive, reliable sources of fats and oils is stimulating promising research on next-generation feedstocks such as algae and camelina.

With just over a decade of commercial-scale production, the industry is proud of its careful approach to growth and strong focus on sustainability. Production has increased from about 25 million gallons in the early 2000s to about 1.7 billion gallons advanced biofuel in 2014. This represents a small but growing component of the annual U.S. on-road diesel market of about 35 billion to 40 billion gallons. Consistent with projected feedstock availability, the industry has established a goal of producing about 10 percent of the diesel transportation market by 2022.

Reaching that goal would significantly lessen U.S. dependence on imported oil, bolstering national security and reducing our trade deficit. At the same time, biodiesel’s growth would boost the U.S. economy, not just by creating jobs but also by reducing our dependence on global oil markets and vulnerability to price spikes. There are currently about 200 biodiesel plants across the country – from Washington state to Iowa to North Carolina – with registered capacity to produce some 3 billion gallons of fuel. The industry is supporting more than 62,000 jobs, generating billions of dollars in GDP, household income and tax revenues. The industry’s economic impact is poised to grow significantly with continued production increases. The industry supports jobs in a variety of sectors, from manufacturing to transportation, agriculture and service.
